Jazz gigs at Petit Jazz - September 2007

Ben Waghorn

As well as playing saxes, bass clarinet and flute at jazz venues and festivals all over the country with his own quartet, Ben Waghorn has worked alongside and recorded with many great musicians. These include Keith Tippett, John Etheridge,
Steve Waterman, Damon Brown, Andy Sheppard and hammond organist John Paul Gard. Although Kevin Figes majors on Alto Saxophone, he also plays Soprano, Baritone, Flute and Alto Flute. He has recorded two cds with Sirius B, and toured widely with his own quartet at venues including LondonÕs Jazz Cafe and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
The rhythm section, led by composer and keyboard player Hywel Davies, is completed by Ralf Dorrell on Bass and Trevor Davies on Drums. Petit Jazz gigs are staged at the delightful Little Theatre in Wells, Somerset. ItÕs a relaxed, intimate atmosphere where you can sit and enjoy a drink, good food and listen to great jazz. We present a different band for each event and we like to showcase
well-known local artists. National and international musicians also appear, so keep an eye on this site.

The Craig Crofton Quintet played to a sell-out house on 3rd March. They re-worked many standards and really pulled out for a series of Theolonius Monk compositions. This was the first gig for Petit Jazz and was a huge success.
